Ann Marie’s studio practice is influenced by her desert environs and grounded in personal experiences of wild and remote landscapes. Her abstract paintings reflect the dynamic nature of the non-human world and have been exhibited in galleries nationally and internationally and included in private and public collections including City of Houston Civic Art Collection, U.S. Dept of State Art in Embassies Collection, and Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital. Ann Marie was born and raised in rural northwest Ohio and lived in Portland, Oregon before moving to West Texas in 2003. She received her MFA in Painting from the University of Houston School of Art in 2007.
Ann Marie served as the Director of Education and Public Programs at the Chinati Foundation (Marfa) from 2008-2015. In 2016 she began working independently to produce grant-funded projects for non-profit organizations through support from private foundations, government agencies, and county and municipal governments. She co-founded Resource Match, her grant-writing firm, in 2021 and currently works with both local and national non-profit arts and culture organizations to secure programmatic, operational, and capital funding. She is deeply rooted in the Marfa community and has held local leadership roles including serving as Mayor from 2017-2019.
