Alpine, Texas played host this year to one of the region’s most meaningful gatherings for the nonprofit community — the 2026 West Texas Rural Philanthropy Days (WTXRPD) Conference, held July 29–31 under the theme “Rooted in Reality: Cultivating Growth by Building Relationships and Community.” Nestled in the heart of the Big Bend, Alpine proved the perfect backdrop for three days dedicated to connection, practical learning, and the kind of powerful conversations that keep rural nonprofit work moving forward.

Three Days of Connection and Growth

The conference kicked off on Wednesday, July 29, with preconference tracks covering board development, staff skills, and advocacy — giving attendees a running start before the main event. That evening set the tone for the days ahead with a Welcome Reception and Funders Mixer at the Museum of the Big Bend, where nonprofit leaders and funders alike had the chance to connect in a relaxed, informal setting.

Thursday brought a full day of breakout sessions, keynotes, and networking. With more than 20 breakout sessions on offer — spanning topics from legislative updates to financial literacy — attendees left with practical tools they could carry straight back to their organizations and communities. Friday rounded things out with dedicated funder engagement opportunities, giving rural nonprofit leaders direct access to the very partners who help make their missions possible.

One especially memorable highlight came at the Granada Theatre, where the conference paused to celebrate 60 years of the Carl B. and Florence E. King Foundation’s support of rural Texas communities — a fitting tribute to the kind of long-term partnership that Rural Philanthropy Days exists to champion.

A Wonderful and Successful Gathering

By every measure, the 2026 conference lived up to its theme. Rural nonprofit leaders from across West Texas came together, built relationships, traded ideas, and left with renewed energy for the work ahead. The conversations sparked in Alpine — between peers, between organizations, and between nonprofits and the funders who invest in them — are exactly the kind of “roots” this conference is designed to grow.
