Why does the app sometimes feel slower than other apps on my device?
The Conference Hub is a Progressive Web App, or PWA. It can be installed on your phone and used much like a traditional app, but it is still powered by a website rather than software downloaded from an app store.
Native apps are built specifically for iPhone or Android and usually keep more of their screens, data, and functions directly on the device. The Conference Hub may need to request updated schedules, handouts, maps, or other information from the website as you move between pages. The speed can therefore depend on your internet connection, the conference Wi-Fi, cellular service, and whether the page has already been stored on your device.
When you select a page or resource, the app may briefly pause while it:
- checks for updated conference information
- retrieves a page or file
- loads content that has not been viewed before
- reconnects after a weak or interrupted signal
Previously viewed pages and resources may load faster because your device can reuse stored copies.
A loading indicator may appear while the Conference Hub is working. Please allow a few seconds before tapping the same button again. If a page does not appear after a longer delay, try refreshing the app or checking your internet connection.
The advantage of this approach is that attendees can use the Conference Hub without downloading a large app-store application, and conference staff can update schedules, locations, and resources quickly without requiring everyone to install a new version.
